February 5, 2023

Chan Kong Sang was born on April 7, 1954. Chan was later known around the world as Jackie Chan. Chan can be described as a character who made the most of his abilities in the face of many challenges. Jackie Chan, born to Charles and Lily Chan, refugees from the Chinese Civil War, was nicknamed "Pa O" by his parents. They used to say that to their son because he was a very active child from an early age. Chan’s parents worked for the French ambassador to Hong Kong.

As a result, Chang spent his childhood in Victoria Peak. Chan's parents enrolled him in Nha-Hwa Primary School with high expectations. He did, however, fail his first year of school. This was a difficult situation for Chan and his parents. His parents decided to have him expelled from school. Chang's father moved to Canberra, Australia, in 1960, to become the US Embassy's head chef. This was also a watershed moment in Chan's life.

Chan began his career as a child actor at the tender age of five. In 1962, he starred in the film "Big and Little Wong Tin Bar." At a young age, Chan played various roles in a number of films. These include "The Love Eterne," which starred in 1963, and "Come Drink With Me," which starred in 1971. At the age of 17, Chan agreed with the Great Earth Film Company.  The year 1973 was a turning point in Chan’s life. He made his acting debut this year through Little Tiger of Canton. Although it was limited to screenings in Hong Kong, it was a valuable experience for Chan. The collapse of the film industry in 1975 also affected Chan.

But Chan’s courage did not diminish. After relocating to Canberra, Chan reunited with his parents. Chan worked under Jack Took Jan as a temporary construction worker there, known as "Little Jack." Hong Kong filmmaker Willie Chan texted him at this point and invited him to a film directed by Lo Wei impressed by Chan’s acting ability. This was a turning point in his life. Entering the American film industry, Chan won the hearts of fans around the world.

He has won numerous awards as a film actor and director. Chang’s Police Story won Best Picture at the 1986 Hong Kong Film Awards. In 1993, Chan won the Best Actor award at the Golden Horse Film Festival. Going a step further, Chan started his own film production company, JCE Movies Limited. Chan is also an accomplished musician. He has released over 20 albums since 1984. Among all these, Chan completed his PhD in Sociology in 1996 from Hong Kong Baptist University. Chan also holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Cambodia. He was also awarded a professorship in 2008 by Savannah University of Art and Design in Hong Kong. Professor Chan was a member of the Faculty of Hotel Schools and Tourism Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In 2015, Chan also became the Dean of the Jackie Chan Institute of Film and Television Studies.
