With 100 not out off 55 balls, Harry Brook scored his first IPL century as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 23 runs. 

The English batsman contributed to the Sunrisers' 228-4 total with a magnificent knock that included 12 fours and three sixes. 

Despite Nitish Rana's 75 from 41 balls and Rinku Singh's unbeaten 58 off 31, Kolkata could only manage to reach 205-7 in response.

Aiden Markram of South Africa scored 50 runs off just 26 balls, and Abhishek Sharma added 32 runs off just 17 pitches to help the Sunrisers score the highest total in the competition so far. 

Off the third ball of their chase, Knight Riders' Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out for a duck, dropping the hosts to 20-3 at Eden Gardens.

Andre Russell fell on the first ball of the 11th over to leave his side 96-5, before captain Rana and Rinku kept Kolkata in the chase with a stand of 69 off 39 balls.

The fifth English player in history to do so, Brook is the first batter to hit a century in the IPL this season. Opening the batting, Brook needed 32 deliveries to reach his half-century and only 23 more to reach his second T20 century.

Brook recorded his first T20 century with an unbeaten 102 off 48 balls for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League in February 2022.
